Representatives of Overseas Newspapers
Employee of an overseas newspaper, news agency or broadcasting corporation, media correspondents working for overseas news organizations, producers, news cameramen and front-of-camera employees can enter the UK if they have been appointed to the UK on a long-term and full time contract. Note that you will only need to apply for a work permit if you are a secretary or work in another administrative position or; your employer is a company registered in the UK.
These are the criteria that will qualify you for this category:
- The overseas organization for which you work assigned you to the UK on a long-term basis as their agent.
- Your only goal is to represent full-time your organization;
- You do not plan to work other than as a spokesperson for your overseas media organization;
- You are expected to support yourself financially in the UK without claiming any Public Funds.
If you are a national from a country where a visa is necessary to come to the UK, you will have to ask for entry clearance before you leave your country. Note that this visa cannot be switch in-country. If you are granted the right to stay in the UK, this will be done for 1 year first, and then if your circumstances remain the same you can apply for an extra 3 years.
After this period, you may apply for permanent residence, these are the requirements:
- You have constantly worked as a representative of an overseas media organization for a period of 5 years;
- You are still assigned full time as a representative of an overseas media organization in the UK and plan to remain as such;
- You haven’t claimed any Public Funds to support yourself financially while in the UK
