MBA Provision and HSMP
Brief Summary of MBA Provision
It was announced in the UK Budget Report of 2004 that graduates from one of the 50 selected MBA course, will be from the 12th of April 2005 eligible to stay in the UK for 1 year under the MBA provision of the Highly Skilled Migrant Program (HSMP). This would allow them to start working after they have qualified. After this period, an extension for up to 3 years can be obtained if the applicants still fulfill the same criteria. This can be followed by a demand for permanent residency in the UK.
They may apply for a three-year extension. After that, they may apply for unlimited leave to remain (permanent residence).
HSMP
The main goal of the HSMP is to get professionals with high qualification and skills from outside the EU to come to work in the UK. For more information see our HSMP section.
The MBA provision (Masters in Business Administration)
The MBA provision’s goal is to attract highly qualified and capable managers to come to work in the UK as it has been difficult to find such professionals within the UK or EU. The Masters in Business Administration is one of the most esteemed and renowned management qualifications.
People who may qualify
Those who graduate from one of the eligible MBA programmes at the time it is on the list will be permitted to apply for the MBA provision.
You should know that you can only apply for a MBA provision if you have qualified from one of the 50 eligible MBA course at the time it appeared on the list. The list was published on the 2nd of December 2004; so if you have qualified before this date you cannot apply for a MBA provision. However, as you have graduated from a top MBA, you can still obtain a number of points towards the 75 points for the HSMP. See regular HSMP. If you have not graduated yet, you can send a letter from your tutor.
Conditions
- You are a graduate from one of the eligible business school while it appears on the list published from the 2nd of December 2004.
- You must have obtained an MBA degree, other graduation will not be considered.
- You will be awarded the minimum 75 points necessary to qualify under HSMP.
- Other requirements:
- You’ll carry practicing your chosen career in the UK.

The list of 50 eligible business school programmes
You will find below the list published from the 2nd of December 2004 by the Treasury in the Pre-budget Report, this list has been edited every year since.
The 50 eligible programs have been determined by looking at the following criteria:

The list of institutions
The list contains 10 UK institutions and 40 institutions from various parts of the world.
It was important to include institutions from the UK, as many students enter the UK to study. They are already integrated so it’s easier for them to obtain an employment.
The provision isn’t entirely completed; the Government will publish any up-date which you will be able to see here.
